Basic Doctrinal Statement

Go to Awards

I believe in the one, living, and true God, who is triune in His being, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, of one essence, power, and glory, each equally to be loved, worshiped, and obeyed.

I believe that salvation is of the Lord; that fallen man, being dead in trespasses and sins, can contribute nothing to his own rescue; and that sinners are saved wholly by God’s sovereign grace alone and it is on the ground of His redeeming work and the sole merit of His substitutionary atoning work on the cross, and not in any part by human works.

I believe that all Holy Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, so that the Bible is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience.

I believe, therefore, that the written Word of God is the church’s only final authority; that it alone is the living and abiding truth, profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

I believe that those whom God justifies, He also sanctifies; that true saving faith is always accompanied and evidenced by good works and spiritual fruit; and that such fruitfulness will flourish in proportion as the believer walks in humble dependence upon, and submission to, the indwelling Holy Spirit through faithful obedience to the Word, being thereby progressively conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. Therefore it follows that a persisting lack of good works and spiritual fruit is cause for deep introspection and concern and should bring about either urgent repentance or acknowledgment of a previous false confession.

I believe that the one, holy, universal church consists of all those, in every place and age, who have been united to Christ by grace through faith, and that these alone are the true people of God. No simple act of baptism, communion or ceremony is sufficient to bring about salvation, but rather are signs, seals and means of grace for the life of the believer.

I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the sole Head and Chief Shepherd of the church, and that all authority in the church is ministerial and declarative only, being derived from Him and regulated by His Word. All qualified men who serve as elders, deacons or overseers are held to a higher standard of conduct as they claim to represent and lead with the conviction and character of Christ himself.

I believe that the church exists to glorify God: by the unadulterated preaching and hearing of His Word, by the right administration of His ordinances, by mutual love and fellowship among the saints, and by bearing faithful witness to the Gospel of Christ to every image bearer willing and unwilling to hear until He comes.

I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, now reigning at the right hand of the Father, is advancing His kingdom in history through the effectual working of His Spirit and the permeating Gospel, so that the nations are to be discipled and His will is to be increasingly done on earth as it is in heaven.

I believe that God, in His own time and in His own sovereign way, will bring this present age to its pre-appointed end; that the Lord Jesus Christ will return personally, visibly, and in glory; that the dead will be raised, and that Christ will judge all mankind in holy righteousness. I believe that those who are in Christ, having been justified by His grace, will be raised in glory to everlasting life in the presence of God, while the impenitent and unbelieving will be raised to everlasting punishment and so He shall reign manifestly and without rival forever. In this blessed hope of the resurrection, the return of Christ, and the life of the world to come, I rest and rejoice, seeking, by His grace, to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age as I look for the appearing of our great God and Savior.

These core truths of the Christian faith I gladly embrace, confess, and proclaim, and by the grace of God I purpose to demonstrate them in life and ministry.
